eBay companion replacement
Long before modern browser extensions, eBay experimented with companion tools that kept search, bids, watched items, and auction alerts close to the browser. The core promise was simple: keep eBay activity visible while you browse elsewhere. Search, watched items, active auctions, messages, and bid notifications could live near the page instead of forcing you to keep a full eBay tab open all day.
Modern eBay users mostly rely on the website, mobile apps, and notifications. The old official browser add-ons and toolbars did not survive as current, installable companion products across Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
That leaves a real gap for buyers who still work from a desktop browser: collectors, resellers, deal hunters, and auction watchers often want a compact browser-side view of what matters next.
Rover is Chrome-first because Chrome now has a native side-panel pattern that fits the old companion idea better than a popup or toolbar. The panel can sit beside eBay while the main tab stays on listings, searches, seller pages, or purchase history.

Watched items sat at the heart of the old companion promise, and that is where Rover starts. The Watching tab shows your real eBay watchlist — the same list you see on eBay, with add and remove syncing both ways. Each card shows the title, image, current price, shipping, condition, and seller name, and for auctions a live countdown, the bid count, and your own bid position with an outbid marker.
Watched auctions that are about to end are raised to a prominent hero card, and you can add items either by watching them on eBay as normal or by dragging any eBay listing URL into the panel. Alerts were part of the old companion promise too. Rover watches your account and shows desktop Chrome notifications for the events that matter: outbid and ending soon on the buying side, and item sold, bid received, and buyer question on the selling side. Each type has its own on/off switch, and a test-notification button confirms the chain works end to end.
