Seller alerts that match real eBay events

Rover watches your seller account for the events that actually need a reaction. Item-sold alerts tell you a listing converted while the buyer is still warm — the window where fast shipping earns feedback. Bid-received alerts flag new auction activity worth a look. Buyer-question alerts surface messages that decide sales: an unanswered sizing question is usually a lost buyer by the next day.

Each alert respects your saved preference for that type, then shows a normal Chrome notification — the kind that lands in your operating system’s notification center, not a badge buried inside a tab.

Turn them on in two minutes

Install Rover from the Chrome Web Store, open the side panel, and sign in with your eBay account through eBay’s own authorization page. Then open Rover’s settings and switch on the seller alerts you want: item sold, bid received, buyer question.

Two permissions matter. Chrome itself must be allowed to show notifications by your operating system — on macOS that is System Settings → Notifications → Google Chrome; on Windows, Settings → System → Notifications, and watch out for Focus Assist silencing everything. Rover includes a test notification button precisely so you can confirm the whole chain works before you rely on it.

Choose which notifications deserve attention

Notification settings are separate per type, and the right mix depends on how you sell. A fixed-price store mostly wants sold-item and buyer-question alerts, with bid activity muted. An auction-heavy seller flips that: bid alerts on for momentum, question alerts on for the pre-bid questions that decide final price, sold alerts optional since the auction end tells you anyway.

Turning an alert off changes the Rover preference only; it does not change the listing or message inside eBay, and eBay’s own emails keep arriving either way.

Why desktop alerts instead of the phone

eBay’s real-time alerts live in its mobile app, and email is where the rest goes — often minutes late and easily buried. But selling work happens at a desk: photographing, listing, printing labels, answering questions with a real keyboard. The alert is also calmer than a phone buzz: it arrives, it is visible in the corner of the screen you are already looking at, and clicking it puts you in front of the thing that needs doing instead of a lock screen.

A notification tells you what just happened. The Selling tab provides the surrounding context: active, sold, and unsold listings, pending offers, watchers, views, promoted-listing rates, buyer questions, shipping actions, and earnings over the last 60 days.

If notifications are not showing

Run the checklist in order. First, fire Rover’s test notification from settings — if it does not appear, the problem is system-level: Chrome lacks notification permission in your OS settings, or a focus/do-not-disturb mode is swallowing it. If the test works but real alerts feel late, remember Chrome has to be running for extensions to work — with Chrome closed, nothing can fire, and the Selling tab simply shows the current state next time you open it.
